THE current exhibition at Galanthus, Reclaimed, is a celebration of the creativity of artists who use sustainable or recycled materials and “found” objects in their work.

Caroline Brown uses all kinds of found objects in her textiles to explore the world around her, while Shellie Holden charges new energy into artefacts like books through stitched or embroidered interventions. Sharon Kearley produces sculptural textile pieces experimenting with a variety of both natural and synthetic yarn; Jennifer Collier also experiments with traditional textile techniques to create innovative pieces using natural and found materials.

Extraordinary works include Sarah Thirlwell’s vivid and tactile vessels made from recycled plastics together with sustainable timbers; Hannah Greenaway’s portraits of women and children made with a plastic knitted material she has invented herself; and Magie Hollingworth’s contemporary vessels and sculptural forms created using recycled paper waste.

Jewellers featured in the show are Shimara Carlow, whose exquisite pieces are inspired by natural forms, particularly seed pods; Rachel Darbourne, who makes stunning, colourful pieces using polythene and talented young Korean designer-maker Misun Won.

Reclaimed runs until June 7. Open 10am to 5pm, Thursday to Sunday (closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday).
