FOR the 52nd annual concert at The Shire Hall, Hereford, on Saturday, Hereford Police Male Choir will be singing several pieces new to its repertoire, including a Maori lullaby, Hine e Hine, and the hauntingly beautiful melody of Gabriel Faure’s French masterpiece, Cantique de Jean Racine.

But the concert will be given a rousing start with a male voice favourite, When the Saints Go Marching In, and includes several songs the police choir performed during its acclaimed appearances last summer on the BBC TV show Last Choir Standing, showing the increasing musical versatility of the police choir under musical director Alison Houlbrooke.

Guest soloist is city clarinettist Stephanie Bissell, the 2009 winner of the Police Choir’s annual Young Musicians Bursary, who later this year starts her studies at the Royal College of Music in London.

Tickets are available from The Outback, Church Street, Hereford, or on the door.
