ART students have filled the void left by a closed Hereford business and displayed their work in its empty shop window.

Hereford Sixth Form College’s art department launch-ed the exhibition at the site of the former Bliss Homes store in Franklin House, Commercial Road, which closed in March.

The college is also asking private landlords to contact them if they know of further empty shops that could house displays.

Temporary window displays at Franklin House show artwork produced by 23 students studying the four art A-level disciplines at the Folly Lane college – fine art, graphic design, product design and textiles. The display has gone ahead with the approval of ESG Herefordshire and Herefordshire Council, which owns the building.

Nick Samsworth, head of art at the college, said: “Empty shops can attract the wrong sort of attention and become eyesores.

“Our idea is to temporarily transform this empty shop, keeping it alive and hopefully attracting future investment to the area.”

Any private landlords with empty window space can call the college on 01432 355166.
