THE largest herd of White Park cattle in the country, and probably in the world, will be autioned at Worcester Livestock Market on Saturday, May 23.
The 300 head are from Sir Benjamin Slade’s Maunsel herd, which is being dispersed following a change in farming policy.
White Park cattle have their origins dating back to 1210AD and the Rare Breeds Survival Trust now lists them as “at risk”.
The sale will also include 30 British White cattle, allowing these rare and scarce bloodlines to be dispersed into established and newly formed herds, enabling the breed to continue to fight for existence in these modern times.
The sale will be conducted by Clive Roads , auctioneer and partner at McCartneys, who said it should provide a real boost for established and new breeders enabling them to augment their herds with unusual and sought after bloodlines.
Further details are available at McCartneys in Worcester or call 01905 769770.
