MCCARTNEYS report a good entry of 1,750 sheep at Kington Market on April 30.

A good entry of 1,100 hoggets sold to an excellent trade.

Well-bred and meated hoggets between 40 and 55kg would be at market premiums and hoggets in all weight ranges would be in good demand.

All hoggets forward averaged 1.85ppk with a top of 210ppk. Hoggets sold to a top of £99.50 per head.

There was a very good entry of 450 spring lambs, with all lambs selling to a fabulous trade, which would be up by almost 20ppk on the previous day’s trading, with all lambs averaging 2.38ppk up to 251ppk. Top price lambs made £101 per head.

Some 39kg hoggets from E M Jones made £70, 42kg hoggets from C M Morgan £83.50, 44kg hoggets from T Hughes & Sons made £91.50, 49kg hoggets from W H Lyke made £93.50, 51kg hoggets from J T Jones & Sons made £95.50, 53kg hogg-ets from R Sankey & Co made £96, 56kg hoggets from W H Lyke made £99.50.

There was a good entry of 400 cull ewes selling to an excellent trade, which had remained firm. Well meated and strong ewes were selling to market premiums. The ewes sold to a top of £85 and to average £56.80 per ewe, tups sold to £70 and to average £58, wethers sold to £60 and to average £65. The cull ewes included a proportion of thinner mule ewes and hill ewes.
