TWO Herefordshire couples have recalled the terrifying moment when pirates attacked their cruise ship.
Ron and Judy Giles are back in the county after a dream cruise from Durban to Genoa turned into a nightmare.
The pair took cover on April 26 when gun-wielding pirates attacked the MSC Melody in the Indian Ocean.
Another Herefordshire couple – David and Peggy Hamer, from Weobley – were also on board the cruise ship.
“We heard some shots and then suddenly there was a lot of running around,” said Mr Hamer.
“I saw a white high-speed boat leave the rear and come around the side of our ship. There were five or six people in it and, as it got closer, I saw one of the guys stand and raise a rifle.
“We were ushered down into our cabins and there was a crack of a rifle. We were told to lock the door and turn the light out.”
