MORE than 100 young chess players battled it out at a Herefordshire school as part of a national competition.
The youngsters entered the mega final of the UK Chess Challenge at Kingstone and Thruxton Primary School, which hosted pupils from the county and Shropshire.
A range of competitions were held for children of different ages and Jordan Addis, Fiona Reynolds and Jessica Harrison, from the school, progressed to the next round, known as the giga final. “There was a lot of intense concentration and about 10 Herefordshire primary schools were represented,” said headteacher Colin Mutton.
This year’s tournament was the fourth time the school had hosted the event.
