JEAN Miller, who turns 80 later this year, is something of a tourist attraction in Hay-on-Wye, where next week she opens her home to visitors again for an exhibition which runs concurrently with the festival.
At the same time, she is featured in Huw Parsons’s new book Planet Hay, a celebration of the border town.
Last year, people snapped up her paintings as soon as the paint was dry, and sometimes before.
This year, a series of limited edition giclee (an extremely high quality and light-fast printing process) prints made of a small selection of Jean’s work will be available.
People cannot get enough of Jean’s work and, following a rather special visit a couple of weeks ago by the Rinpoche of Sikkim (the spiritual mentor of Sikkim’s leader), two of her paintings and a print are now on display in Sikkim, the Indian state whose neighbours include Tibet and Nepal.
Last year, Jean’s life and work were celebrated in a book, published by Excellent Press in Ludlow, entitled Jean Miller’s Paintings.
The book will be available at the exhibition that is previewed tomorrow evening (Friday) and runs until Sunday, May 31, at 10, Lion Street, Hay-on-Wye.
