WINNER of BBC Radio’s Folk Singer of the Year in 2008, and rapidly building an unrivalled reputation all over the world, Julie Fowlis sings the songs of her homeland, North Uist in the Outer Hebrides, in her native language – Gaelic.

These are songs of mesmerising beauty and passion, sung with rhythmic power and extraordinary grace. Julie has the rare ability to hold an audience captive whether she is singing a slow Gaelic air, a walking song or a more contemporary piece.

She sings through a range of traditional Gaelic songs as well as incorporating a few from her latest album, skilfully providing a little background information on every piece.

An accomplished musician on bagpipes and whistles, Julie has gathered some of the finest players in Scotland about her.

She will be playing at The Courtyard on Wednesday, May 20, at 8pm. To book, call 01432 340555.
