BROMYARD’S departing mayor has “set the standard” according to his replacement.
Councillor Jamie Jacobsen was handed the mayoral chains at Monday’s town council meeting.
He was said he was honoured to accept the position, but claimed Jonathan Lester would be a hard act to follow.
He praised coun Lester’s role in the purchase of the council officers and the school closure protests.
“He rose to the occasion, not just in Bromyard but in all of Herefordshire,” said coun Jacobsen.
“To stand behind him when he was addressing the crowds in High Town is an experience that will stay with me for a long time.
“He’s set the standard for being chairman of this council,” he added.
Coun Lester said he was honoured to serve Bromyard, and thanked the council and his consort, Georgina, for their support.
Coun Jacobsen outlined plans for a town council website and regular surgeries at the meeting, while Nigel Davies was elected deputy chairman.
