THREE generations of a Herefordshire family have celebrated a unique milestone.
Alice Arrowsmith was treated to champagne and cake last week as relatives celebrated her 90th birthday.
But she didn’t have the cake to herself, as her daughter and granddaughter were born on the same day, exactly 25 years apart.
The birthday girls were all born on May 5, with Pat Horrigan arriving in 1944 and her daughter, Catherine, following in 1969.
Friends and family travelled from as far as Hull and Sussex to celebrate the triple birthday at Bodenham Golf Club.
Catherine’s sister, Christine Price, said: “It’s amazing – we thought it might be a record because there can’t be many cases like this.
“We had a celebration 10 years ago when gran (Alice) was 80. It’s quite an expensive time but it’s all worth it.”
The trio appeared in the Hereford Times in 1974 when Catherine was a five-year-old pupil at St Michael’s School in Bodenham. She is now a care manager living in Hereford, while Alice and Pat have retired and still live in the village.
Alice, born in 1919, is nearing her 70th wedding anniversary and previously ran a shop in Canon Pyon.
Pat, a former administration officer who has been married for 45 years, said: “It’s really nice to be able to celebrate together.
“I can’t believe how many cards we’ve had, as my mother counted 70 and a few more have arrived this morning.”
