HEREFORDSHIRE boat owners are being encouraged to take simple steps to protect their vessels from fire.
As part of Boat Fire Safety Week, which runs between Monday (May 25) until May 31, Hereford and Worcester Fire Service are urging the boating community to be more fire aware.
Paul Haden, chief fire officer, is encouraging boat owners fit fire alarms and take safety measures.
“Anyone in doubt about the alarm they need should contact us on 0800 032 1155 for a free boat fire risk check,” said Mr Haden.
Other safety advice includes: Taking extreme care when refuelling with petrol or changing gas cylinders; avoiding using portable gas equipment and storing canisters in special gas lockers or open places.
