A TRIO of Herefordshire companies have been commended for helping to tackle climate change.

Caplor Farm, based at Fownhope, Ledbury packaging firm Amcor Flexibles and Hereford Pedicabs all won regional prizes in the Carbon Positive Footprints at The Prince’s May Day Summit on Climate Change.

Hereford Pedicabs won the C+ Micro Award for operating two pedal-powered, zero emissions cabs which are proving to be popular in the city.

Caplor Farm and Amcor Flexibles both received the C+ Positive Footprint prizes.

Caplor Farm, a farm diversification project, has trialled one of its plants in Gambia and Amcor Flexibles has introduced the Enviroaction programme across its company.

David Darlaston, regional director for business in the community, said: “This is the first year we have held the C+ Awards and we had more than 50 entries.

“The winners provided a clear indication of the quality, innovation and commitment clearly present in big businesses, small firms and community organisations.”

■ Meanwhile, Hereford-based Compass has been ranked top in the country by a ‘mystery shopper’ for Financial Advisor magazine.

Compass was asked for advice on equity release, the raising of additional capital for the over- 55s using the equity in your own home.

Financial Advisor said Compass’ equity release specialist David Nicholas was “very helpful and easy to talk to... and knew what he was talking about.

He listened carefully and seemed genuinely interested in helping...”

Each month, the magazine tests independent financial advisors from a specific area, asking for advice on the same topic and publishes the results.

David’s handling of the call saw Compass take Herefordshire’s top place.
