A CITY couple whose parents’ golden weddings featured in the Hereford Times have now celebrated their own.

The parents of both Ivor and Pat Prosser, of Old Eign Hill, appeared in the paper in 1979 and 1987 respectively and they have now reached the milestone themselves.

The couple have followed their parents Walter and Annie Prosser and Tom and Jessie Evans by celebrating 50 happy years of marriage – and marked their golden day by visiting Cuba.

“It was brilliant. We absolutely loved it. We went to Havana for a day. It was really interesting to see all the old cars,” said Mrs Prosser.

The couple were joined by son Andrew, daughter-in-law Lyn and grandson Harry on the holiday and the day was made even better with Ivor in good health after a triple heart bypass in 1989.

The couple met in 1954 at the Technical College in Newtown Road, Hereford, and they married at the Baptist Church in Commercial Road on March 30, 1959.

Pat moved to Hereford from Morecambe in 1953 when her father Tom Evans was manager of Radio Relay in Commercial Road – a business owned by her grandfather Robert Austin.

After leaving college, Pat was employed at Scriven Powell and James the architects in King Street.

She later joined the family firm of Kings Radio in Widemarsh Street.

From school, Ivor worked as an apprentice at Brook Brothers in Blueschool Street before his two years of national service.

He then re-joined Brook Brothers, then worked in Monmouth, with Hill Fuels in Ledbury, Munday Taylor in Foley Street and Belmont Golf Club.
