BALLET EXAMS – Nine girls who are pupils of the Grant Beasley School of Dance have passed their Royal Academy Grade 4 ballet exam with merit. The girls – Phillippa Bright, Bethan Hughes, Hannah Stewardson, Sophie Lloyd, Lauren Burgoyne, Menna Breeze, Eleanor Lloyd, Rhoda Hodnett and Tiffany Lloyd – were taught by Brenda Beasley.
KNIGHTON FARMERS’ AND CRAFT MARKET – The farmers’ and craft market is taking place at the Drill Hall on Saturday from 9.30am t0 1pm.
SPRING SALE – Knighton Baptist Church is holding its spring sale in the schoolroom on Saturday at 2.30pm.
LLANFAIR SINGERS IN CONCERT – On Sunday at 3pm, the Llanfair Singers will be singing in St Edward’s Church, Knighton. They will be singing the music of Gilbert and Sullivan. Entrance £5, which includes interval refreshments.

SUBBUTEO COMPETITION – There will be a Welsh international open Subbuteo tournament at Knighton Football Club on June 6 and 7.
Competitors will be coming from all over Britain and some from further afield in search of finger-flicking glory. Entry fees are £10, anyone residing in Powys can enter for £5. TEME VALLEY GARDENERS CLUB – The AGM was held recently.
Chairperson Jean Price commenced the meeting with the sad news of the sudden death of the club president John Hopkins. The officers elected for the coming years are chairperson Jean Price, secretary Avril Hoyle, treasurer M Margaret Clugston and committee members Pam Barclay, Audrey Fox, Kath Graham, Marilyn Tippett, Brenda Morgan and Ann Harroway. The Rudge Cup awarded annually to the person gaining the most competition points was presented to Marilyn Tippett.
COFFEE MORNING FOR CHRISTIAN AID – Churches together in Knighton and district held a coffee morning and raised £269.
TEDDY BEAR SALE – Four-year-old Charlotte Middleton’s teddy bear sale raised £54.
KNIGHTON SHOW AND CARNIVAL ATTENDANTS – The youngsters who will accompany this year’s Knighton Carnival princess are Cody and Arron Chibnell-Smith, Heidi Proudman, Gemma Morgan, Emily Morris, Lucy Naylor and Jessica and Ieuan Griffiths.
KNIGHTON YFC PRESENT MONEY – Knighton Young Farmers Club has presented £340 to the Macmillan Renton Appeal at Hereford. The money was raised at the end of last year when club members went on a carol singing evening around local houses and farms.
DAUGHTERS FOLLOW MUMS WITH JUNE – June Jones is celebrating 30 years with the Girl Guides this year. In July, after the annual camp in Criccieth, June is hoping to retire and the Guides are looking for a new assistant leader.
Anyone interested in the role can let June or Sue O’Rourke know. There are more than 20 Guides and if a new assistant leader isn’t found soon, they will no longer be able to meet on a Wednesday night and will miss out on the centenary celebrations in 2010.
