YOUNG farmers in Herefordshire have set themselves a task which could take two years to complete.
But they can’t do it without the help of their elders.
In its 65th year, the Herefordshire Federation of Young Farmers wants to start archiving its history covering the whole of the period.
And that means calling on grannies and grandads to help.
“We want old photos, videos, newspaper cuttings and year books, anything to do with YFCs in Herefordshire for well over half a century,”
said the organisation’s administrator Lucinda Rees.
The YFC has played a major role in rural social life in Herefordshire and many of the county’s marriages were sourced through the weekly or monthly meetings and events.
People interested in farming learned many of their skills through the help of volunteers while other members had the chance to develop artistic skills through drama, music, cookery and photography.
Lucinda believes many exmembers have a wealth of memories as well as memorabilia which they could contribute to ensure the contribution of YFCs in Herefordshire over 65 years is recorded.
Send information to the YFC office at Beech Business Park.
