THE Timbuktu craft trade looks set for a much-needed boost as local artisans prepare to wow visitors during their twin town’s world famous literary festival.
Workers from the West African town will demonstrate the intricate art of creating silver jewellery and other items that now sell locally following Hayon- Wye’s successful twinning bid in 2007.
Taureg craftsmen will work alongside stalls selling crafts from India, Nepal and other countries at a Fairtrade fair in the Butter Market on Saturday and Sunday.
Members of Fairtrade Hay will also be explaining what Fairtrade means and how it helps people to trade their way out of poverty.
The fair is one of various side events taking place in the town throughout the Hay Festival, which also include a Philosophy Festival at The Globe and a funfair in the market square.
