MORE than 100 residents have attended a special exhibition on Colwall’s new railway bridge.

Plans to replace the crumbling two-lane bridge with a single carriageway and traffic lights have divided villagers.

The original bridge closed in summer 2007 amid structural concerns, while a replacement is due to open on June 26.

Officers from Herefordshire Council and Network Rail explained the new system during the library exhibition.

Richard Ball, assistant director of environment and culture, was aware of concerns but wanted to keep residents up to date.

“Most people who came along wanted to know when the bridge would be open and said they couldn’t wait until June 26,” he said.

“The majority who came along were also supportive of the new one-way traffic system which will be in place.”
