HEREFORDSHIRE residents are supporting Peterchurch super-mum Pauline Brace as she reaches new heights in the fight to save her son.

Belmont Veterinary worker Amanda Cooke, colleague Michelle Harris, Fairfield High School teacher Melanie Williams and Joe Plant all came forward for a charity skydive after reading about the plight of 10-year-old Josh Dovey in the Hereford Times.

But before they can make the jump with the mother-of-four, who has dedicated all her time to helping Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) sufferers since Josh was diagnosed five years ago, they must raise £10,000.

Pauline, who later became an advocate for DMD charity Action Duchenne, said: “Two babies every week in the UK alone are born with this. I’m doing this for Josh and for them. Yes I’m terrified, but not as terrified of what will happen if we do not find a treatment quickly enough.”

Professor Steve Wilton – the man conducting genetic patching trials that could help Josh and others – is also leaving DMD research in Australia to take part on Father’s Day.

It will be the latest in a number of county fund-raisers helping with research that could potentially delay the onset of symptoms like heart and breathing problems.

Pauline said: “Two families go through this diagnosis every week, we need to change what that diagnosis means.”
