MANY farmers and landowners are not considering the taxation issues that can arise at the time of death, retirement or sale, according to auctioneers and valuers John Amos & Co.
The Leomister-based company is now offering a free “tax health check” to help make them more aware of potential problems.
“In times gone by, there has been a general thought that ‘if it’s farming, it’s alright’ – but no, that is not necessarily the case,” said John Amos.
The Inland Revenue was looking more closely at “non agricultural” values as well as the relationship between owners and occupiers.
“Your view of what is agriculture may not be shared by the tax office and it is too late after the event,” said Mr Amos.
The checks, taking about an hour, are being offered to farmers and landowners in the West Midlands and mid- Wales through June and July at either Leominster or Llandrindod Wells.
