THE BURMA STAR ASSOCIATION – An Extraordinary General Meeting will be held at the Welsh Club, Hereford, on Thursday, June 4, at 2.30pm. The only item on the agenda will be the proposed dissolution of the branch and subsequent ceremonials.

HEREFORDSHRE TWINNING ASSOCIATION – The AGM of the Forum of Herefordshire Twinning Associations took place at Withington Village Hall on Friday, May 15.

Chairman Tudor Jones reported that all the associations in the forum had had an active and successful year with both home and away visits going well. As Tudor’s three-year term as chairman of the association was up, the election of officers followed. The new chairman is Paul Bainbridge. Jeff Wheeler takes over as vice-chairman, with Dick Davies carrying on as treasurer. Ute Hitchin has also offered to carry on as secretary.

After the brief AGM, the social side of the evening got under way with the food and drink provided by association members and the music provided by five members of Tunewrights, the Hereford/Eardisland-based young musicians group. On view in the hall were boards giving a visual display of the groups’ activities while out and about during their individual exchanges. One big topic of conversation throughout the evening was the incident that had made the front pages of the Hereford Times involving the Kington/Marines return trip from France, where illegal immigrants had stowed away on their coach.

HEREFORDSHIRE PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY – At Herefordshire Photographic Society’s annual dinner and awards, held on Thursday, May 7, at Burghill Golf Club, President Joyce Davies celebrated 60 years of membership. To honour this remarkable achievement, Joyce was made the society’s first honorary life president.
