MARDEN GARDENERS’ ASSOCIATION – celebrated its 40th anniversary with a concert and cheese and wine party at Marden Community Hall on May 16. We were delighted to welcome Shirley Gemmell, one of the founder members, who told us of the association’s origins and cut the celebratory cake. Music was provided by the Monday Singers from Hay-on-Wye and, in addition to a varied choral programme, guests enjoyed listening to a Spanish classical guitarist. Other events planned for the year are visits to three local gardens, the autumn show and a Christmas social, as well as meetings featuring a wide range of speakers. If you would like to join us, 40 years on and still going strong, call Peter Mann on 01432 880487.
