DEMONSTRATION – The Friends of Cascob Church present Summertime, a flower arranging demonstration by Cynthia Hughes tonight (Thursday) at 7.30pm, in the Assembly Rooms, Presteigne.

Tickets £6.50 to include wine and refreshment. All proceeds in aid of the restoration of the church.

OPEN GARDENS – The garden at 7 Hereford Street will be open on Saturday, June 13, from 11am to 4pm.

Admission will be £1 by ticket or at the door.

There will be refreshments available and plants and bric-a-brac will be on sale. All proceeds will go to the Welsh and Midlands Air Ambulances.

MEDICAL CENTRE – Presteigne Medical Centre will be closed on Tuesday from 1pm to 6.30pm for compulsory protected learning time organised by Powys Local Health Board.

If you need to contact a doctor urgently during that time, call the surgery as usual and your call will be redirected to the out-of-hours service. The nearest minor injuries unit is at Kington Court, call 232333.

VINTAGE SHOW – The annual Presteigne and Norton vintage car and motorcycle show will take place on Sunday, June 14, from 10.30am to 4.30pm at Wentes Meadow. Entry will be £3 for adults and free entry for children. There will be a car boot sale, refreshments, model engineering, auto jumble and a brass band playing from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. AGM – Presteigne Memorial Hall is holding its AGM at the hall on Wednesday, June 3, at 7pm. Everyone is welcome.

QUIZ – There is a quiz at Lingen Village Hall tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30pm. The cost for a team of four is £6. Please bring your own alcohol but soft drinks and nibbles will be provided. CAMEO – The next meeting of Norton Cameo is on Wednesday, June 3, in St Andrew’s Church Hall. This month, Richard Piccard will be doing a presentation called The Stars at Night.

For details call 267245 or visit nortoncameo.org.uk OPEN DAY – The Curlew Centre is holding its second annual vintage rally open day on Saturday from 11am to 5pm. There is an opportunity to take the riverside walk or get lost in the maize or view the working vintage machinery.

There will be refreshments, exhibits, produce and plants, plus much more.

Admission is £3 for adults and free for children. The curlew centre is a not-forprofit project.

CONCERT – There is a concert featuring Peter Hewitt on piano and Peter Fisher on violin at Stockenny near New Radnor on Saturday at 7.30pm.

The programme will include music from Kreisler, Monti, D’Ambrosio and Elgar.

MARKET – The monthly market will take place on Saturday, June 6, at the Memorial Hall from 9am to 1pm. All the usual stalls will be there.

EVERGREEN CLUB – The Evergreen Club is running a coach trip to Aberystwyth on Wednesday, June 17, leaving Presteigne at 9.15am. The cost is £8.50 for members and £9.50 for nonmembers.

OPEN GARDENS – St Andrew’s Church in Norton is organising open gardens in Norton on Saturday, June 13, from 10.30am to 4.30pm. Admission to the participating gardens is £5, which will include morning coffee or afternoon tea.

Tickets are available from Chris Ruby or Brenda Mansfield or on the day at any of the gardens participating with flags and posters on the gates.

THE CHALLENGE OF LAZARUS – Tony Walton reads his state of the nation poem to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of author Thomas Paine on Monday, June 8, at 9pm at the Dukes Arms. Plus there will be live music from Waisted, the Murray Esplin/Tony Lancett Blues Band.

Admission is £3 at the door and all proceeds will go to the medical aid for Palestinians.

CHURCH LUNCH – The annual Lingen Church lunch will take place in the village hall on Sunday, June 7, from 12.30pm onwards. After lunch, there will be a treasure hunt and open gardens at Damson Cottage by kind permission of Peter and Gilly Lloyd. The cost will be £9 for adults and £3 for children. Tickets £7.50 to include a glass of wine and slice of fruit cake. Lots of easy parking in the field just past the church. All proceeds in aid of the restoration of the church.
