VISITORS to Hereford County Hospital have been offered advice about skin cancer and the dangers of the sun.
The disease is spreading across the country, with more than 100,000 new cases diagnosed each year – making it the most common and fastest growing form of cancer.
Herefordshire is said to be no exception, with a continued increase in all types of skin cancer.
The Herefordshire Dermatology Team linked up with the British Association of Dermatologists and Macmillan Cancer Support to stage an awareness day at the County Hospital, with experts on hand to offer advice and free samples and to answer questions.
The emphasis was on skin cancers from too much sun and people were told they could reduce the risk with clothing, using sunscreen and seeking shade between the hours of 11am and 3pm.
Dr Seautak Cheung, consultant dermatologist at the County Hospital, said that it was paramount that any suspicious skin changes should be checked out by a doctor.
