A MAN died and a child was injured in two serious accidents near Ross-on-Wye.

Sean Thomas, aged 21, from Lydbrook, was a front seat passenger travelling in a Nissan along the B4234 at Bishopswood at 1.50am on Sunday.

The car was travelling towards Ross when it left the road and rolled into a field.

Mr Thomas was anaesthetised at the scene and given oxygen, but his condition worsened during the journey to Hereford County Hospital.

“Resuscitation attempts were carried out for some time and continued at the hospital, but unfortunately the patient died of his injuries,” said Dr Malcolm Russell of Mercia Accident Rescue Service (MARS).

The driver, also believed to be in his early 20s and from Lydbrook, had a suspected head injury and was taken to the same hospital.

Meanwhile, a three-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital following an accident at Whitchurch.

Emergency services were called to the A40, near the BP garage, at about 4.50pm on Monday.

A family from Cardiff were in a car that left the road and ended up on its roof down an embankment.

The boy had a head injury and was airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for treatment. His mother and eight-year-old brother were uninjured in the crash.
