NO fewer than six students from Hereford College of Arts have had their work selected for the final judging of Pewter Live competition, an event hosted by The Worshipful Company of Pewterers.
The exhibition featuring all the entries is opened by the Lord Mayor and in previous years the prizes have been presented by Deyan Sudjic, director of the Design Museum in London, the Prince of Wales and Sir Terence Conran.
The HCA students’ achievement is especially impressive as six is the maximum number of students that can be selected from any one college. Over the past few years, Hereford students have either been awarded or highly commended for their outstanding work with pewter.
All the Hereford entries are from 2nd year BA (Hons) Contemporary Applied Arts students – a very popular course with a national reputation for teaching and encouraging a wide, innovative and imaginative approach to crafts and applied arts.
The students whose work has been selected for Pewter Live are Jake Lazzari, Julia Smith, Julie Williams, Mathew Sayers, Romayne Curzon and Sophie Hopper.
Third year students from this course will be exhibiting as part of the Summer Show, the College’s annual event, open to the public from Saturday, June 13 to Wednesday, June 17, showcasing the work of all final year students.
