CALLS for carers to receive greater recognition will be promoted at events in Carers Week in Herefordshire.
The theme for the week is “Carers – the UK’s Secret Service”, the people who provide unpaid care for someone who is ill, frail or disabled.
Patricia Stokes, from Herefordshire Carers Support, said many carers in the county suffered due to a lack of understanding about what they do and some don’t even recognise themselves as carers.
“This has a real and negative impact on their health, finances, working and social life, and general well being,” she said.
The first event will be on Monday, June 8, with the annual meeting at Hereford Town Hall.
Others include a pamper day at the Shirehall on Tuesday, June 9, and workshops covering stress management, carers into employment and letting go, specifically aimed at former carers, at the Kindle Centre, near Asda, on Wednesday, June 10.
There will be presentations at some GP surgeries and a visit to Hampton Court during the week.
