ONCE again, the Dore Abbey Music Festival brings a feast of music for the early summer in the uniquely atmospheric surroundings of Dore Abbey.

Building on the success of the Friday celebrity recitals of the last four years, the Friends of Dore Abbey Music Festival are proud to feature a rising star of the violin, Jennifer Pike, with the pianist Daniel Tong on Friday, June 26.

Jennifer won the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year award in 2002 when only 12 years old, and already she is considered by many to be the leading violinist of her generation. Jennifer has now become a BBC New Generation Artist for 2008-10. Having recently returned from engagements in Australia and New Zealand, she will be playing with the BBC Scottish Symphony, Philharmonia Orchestra, and Bourne-mouth Symphony Orchestra this summer, and giving recitals during the City of London Festival.

Daniel Tong, who studied in London with Irina Zaritskaya and Paul Roberts, is the artistic director of Wye Valley Chamber Music. His own group, The London Bridge Ensemble, presents varied programmes of chamber music.

Jennifer and Daniel’s programme will include Song of the Night by Holst, the Sonata No.5 in F Major Spring by Beethoven and Grieg’s Sonata in G Major. They will bring their recital to a close with the Introduction and Capriccioso by Saint-Saens. In 2006, The Independent described Jennifer as “bringing the house down” with her playing of this piece at the Barbican.

On Saturday evening, June 27, the Concert for Craswall will be given by Sam Laughton’s highly praised Elysian Singers, with the Craswall Consort. Hotfoot from their performance in London’s St Martin-in-the-Fields, they will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mendelssohn’s birth with some of his most romantic choral music, together with J S Bach’s great motet Lobet den Herrn, and one of his Lutheran Masses. To book for the Concert for Craswall, call 01981 510332.

On Sunday, June 28, at 11am, there will be a Service of Holy Communion, with Stephen Marshall directing his choir, The Unicorn Singers. This will be followed at 3pm by the School Prom by Kingstone High School and their Primary Cluster group, directed by Claire Sheppard.
