MORRIS AND MAYPOLE – Jenny Pipes Morris, which is celebrating the 21st anniversary of the team’s formation this year, will be performing at the church fete on the village green on Saturday at 2.30pm, prior to performing in other local black and white villages later in June. The group takes its name from Jenny Pipes, whose 200th anniversary is celebrated this year; she was the last to be subjected to the ducking stool in Leominster for being a scold. It is reported that as she came up from the ducking she let fly a torrent of abuse at the magistrate and Jenny Pipes Morris took her name as they felt she had an indomitable character.
Following their successful, colourful display of maypole dancing at the village show, the school children will also dance at the fete.
NATIONAL GARDEN SCHEME – The Great House in Dilwyn will be opening its doors on Sunday from 2pm to 5pm, as part of the National Garden Scheme.
Entrance is £3.
JUDGING DAY – The community spirit of the village is in full force at the moment with the Dilwyn Judging Day, as part of the Britain in Bloom competition, approaching on Friday, July 24. The judging route will start at 1pm by the underpass; pass through the village, finishing at the green where tea will be served at 2.30pm. The route for the judges may not encompass your home but you still have time to contact Julia Hall to offer your contribution to the event. Don’t miss out on your chance to promote your village and ‘do your bit’.
