SUMMER FAIR – The Macmillan Cancer Support summer fair will be held in the church hall, Knighton, on Saturday from 3pm. There will be lots of things for sale, including cakes, produce, plants and bric-a-brac. There will also be a raffle. Admission 10p. If anyone would like to donate items for the sale, the hall will be open from noon.

ROSIE READ AT THE TOWER HOUSE GALLERY – Artist and teacher Rosie Read will be demonstrating her techniques on Saturday at Tower House Gallery, Knighton, from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Rosie works from sketches and photographs and takes inspiration from the Marches and the Welsh coast.

She also works in relief with collage, layered fabrics, papers and old family photographs. This work reflects the legacy of the past, and, in recording ephemeral things, endorses the present and promotes hope for the future. For details, call 01547 529530.

A CHORAL ENTERTAINMENT – Songs from the Shows will take place at St Edward’s Church, Knighton, on June 12, starting at 7pm. The concert will be presented by the Kington and District Operatic Society to help raise funds for the church appeal fund.

TABLE SALE – St Edward’s Church Restoration Fund benefited by £240 from the table sale held recently in the church hall. Competition winners were June Ruff, Thelma Watts, Jean Price, Tina Tillier and Edith Conway.

OFFA’S MAZE – The next meeting of the Offa’s Maze group will be at 7.30pm on Monday in the back meeting room of the community centre, Bruce Baker will speak on Ten Reasons Why We Should Not Have Voted at the Last Elections. The door will be open at 7.15pm.

SWEET WATER – A new full-length play, set on the Shropshire/ Radnorshire border, has been specially commissioned by the same team that produced Evensong (2006).

Rehearsals are well under way and it’s a very entertaining, interesting and highly amusing piece. There is some lovely choral music from a 60-strong mixed voice choir. All performances begin at 7.30pm. The play is suitable for children from about six years of age.

Other performers taking part include Paul Fields, Ann Zellmann and Ian Marchant.
