THE peace and quiet of a Leominster cul-de-sac is under threat because lorries using incorrect sat-nav directions are getting stuck.
Residents in Ropewalk Avenue, off Barons Cross Road, have seen a procession of large vans and lorries sent down their street by sat-navs which haven’t been updated or by old maps.
Until 2002 the road was open-ended, joining up with Westcroft, but there are now bollards at that junction, allowing only pedestrians and pushbikes through.
Alison Grange, council press officer, said T-signs are in place warning motorists it is a cul-de-sac.
“Years ago the road was blocked off because it was being used as a rat run,”
said Leominster South councillor, Roger Hunt.
“Lorries using old sat-navs are being sent down there and then can’t get out.”
Coun Hunt said it can take around half an hour for lorries to turn around.
The issue was raised during a recent PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meeting in the town.
Suggestions on how to stop the problem were put forward, including clearer signs for drivers.
