THE work of Herefordshire artists is set to be displayed in empty shop windows across the city centre The aim is to provide vibrancy to the city’s retail sector during the current economic slump, as well as providing artists with the chance to show their work in unusual locations.
Work has already been displayed in the window of Franklin House, on the corner of Blueschool Street and Commercial Road, following Bliss Homes’ move to a new site.
Displays are planned for the windows of other empty premises.
Mel Potter, head of Herefordshire Council’s arts service, said: “We want to make people look again at art in a new setting and stimulate them into finding out more about the arts in the county.”
Councillor Adrian Blackshaw said the idea would enhance the city centre. “It is vital that it remains a vibrant place for people to meet and shop during the downturn,” he said.
