HEREFORDSHIRE’S pioneering university centre plan has a home but no money to move in - yet.
Herefordshire Council’s cabinet now has to hope Whitehall shares its support for Blackfriars Education Centre being the centre’s base.
The choice of site - confirmed by cabinet yesterday - sets up the biggest ever overhaul of higher education here, effectively giving the county as close as it can get to having a university in its name.
Money makes that happen, specifically a preliminary figure of £15 million found through the government’s New University Challenge programme.
With the big tick from cabinet, the bid goes to the government for a check over, and, if it makes the cut, Whitehall will come back for a full business case to determine the project’s share of funding.
