HEREFORDSHIRE Housing wants to revamp part of one of Hereford’s largest housing estates.

It is looking at The Oval, the hub of Newton Farm in Belmont Road.

The association plans to regenerate the area, which lies on one of the main entrances into the city.

Any future decision could lead to the demolition and replacement of up to 200 properties which were built there in the 1950s.

On the other hand, the houses, flats and shops could be retained and refurbished to a higher standard.

Herefordshire Housing’s development manager, Graham Parfitt, said it was up to local residents to help decide which way to progress.

“We want the Oval to be a place you can be proud to live in,’’ he said.

“No plans have been made yet, anything is possible.

“We are asking the residents themselves about what they want to happen to their homes and the area around The Oval.

“Should we demolish and rebuild or should we be looking at doing up the existing properties? That is up to the residents themselves,’’ said Mr Parfitt.

Herefordshire Housing asked the questions at a special event in the area, using a large marquee with a range of activities for adults and children.

Hundreds turned up to the event and people were invited to say what they liked and disliked about their area and to design their perfect home.

It is the start of consultations and Mr Parfitt said no plans are yet in place, but anything is possible.
