POTHOLES, speeding and flooding are issues constantly raised by residents concerned about road safety.
Every week Sarah Carr, the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Hereford, says she is approached by people concerned about the county’s roads.
“Many contact me for help with improving the state of the roads and pavements in Herefordshire and I do what I can to get action,” she said.
“I have visited Barrs Court Road at the request of a resident to view the blocked drains, which means flooding is a regular occurrence and annoyance in the road.
“I have raised the problem with Herefordshire Council and hope it will now act with contractors to remedy the ongoing problems.”
Potholes are also a problem.
“At Dean Swift Close in Goodrich there is a huge pothole, which is not good for cars or for people’s wellbeing,”
she added.
“Another issue is that we have an elderly population and a lot of them use mobility scooters and, for them, potholes are a real problem.”
Other residents contact Ms Carr with concerns about speeding in their local areas.
“People contact me and say people are speeding through their village and request a lower limit. They are particularly concerned if it’s an area where there are a lot of children,”
she said.
Road safety concerns have hit home with Mrs Carr, as she was in an accident last year.
“I was in the car with my young daughter when we were in an accident in south Herefordshire. It was an horrendously frightening experience,”
she said.
“The roads in Herefordshire are too narrow to speed on.
There is a speed limit for a reason – you never know what is round the corner.”
