A HEREFORD teacher is looking to the stars in a record-breaking attempt.
David Martin wants to hold the world’s biggest astronomy lesson in Lugwardine early next month.
Mr Martin, from Stretton Grandison, will hold the event on October 11 or 18 at St Mary’s School, depending on cloud cover.
He believes the “night of a thousand telescopes” will be a blinding success – and a great coup for the county.
“We’ve got to teach in the dark for at least 10 minutes and everyone has to have their own telescope or binoculars,” he said.
“The current record is 250 people but I’m hoping for more than a thousand. We’ll be doing it all night, so there’s plenty of time.
“I think we could beat it locally, but we’ve got people from as far as Norfolk who are coming.”
The Aylestone High School teacher has been planning the event since January as 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy.
Food and shelter will be provided at the event, while participants must register their interest at starlearner.com
