MOTORISTS approaching a Herefordshire village are cutting their speed thanks to a new warning sign.
Drivers coming into Mordiford from the direction of Dormington are met with a solar-powered speed sign shortly before the school, reminding them of the 30mph limit.
Those responsible for the sign say the area is now safer for schoolchildren and villagers.
“Getting the speed sign is a great example of the community pulling together for a vital aim.
“All those involved should be proud of the achievement because it has made crossing the road safer for everyone,” said Vince Stinton Heeley, Mordiford School’s Parent Teacher Friends Association (PTFA) chairman.
About £2,500 was raised towards the sign following a joint venture between the village’s parish council, the school’s PTFA and its governors. A further £1,500 was donated through a Herefordshire Council grants scheme.
