THE wonderful setting of the Deer Park on the Eastnor Castle estate provided a stunning backdrop for a new date in the racing calendar.
Sunday's Magnificent Eastnor Castle Seven was organised by Ledbury and District Harriers and Ledbury Rotary Club.
A total of 135 runners tackled a course along estate roads, woodland paths and trails, eventually climbing up to the highest point on the
course, the Obelisk, before descending down towards the finish.
This tough, challenging course was well received and enjoyed by all the runners, despite having to contend with several large 'puddles' along the route.
The warm, sunny conditions seemed to have no effect on the runners, especially those from Hereford Couriers who took the first three places.
Tim Clarke led the field home in 43m 11s, followed by Matt James in 43m 50s and David Williams third in 45m 41s.
The first lady home was Rachel Hatfield, of Wye Valley Runners, in 48m 17s, followed by Helen Fines, from Forest of Dean AC, in 51m 01s.
All results will be available shortly at www. ledburyharriers.org.uk.
The aim of the race was to raise money for the Macmillan Nurses and also raise the profile of Ledbury and District Harriers within the local community.
The club says it was a very succesful day and hopes to secure permission to hold the race again next year, to possibly make it an annual event.
If you are interested in taking up running, Ledbury and District Harriers can cater for all ages and abilities.
