THREE Herefordshire records fell to Ledbury swimmers at the County Championship gala on Sunday.
LADASC put ten relay teams and 30 individual swimmers into the gala, which was for relay teams but also incorporated the 100m Individual Medley championships.
Ledbury started well, thanks to 12-year-old Thomas Stokes' individual effort, winning gold and setting a new county record by shaving a second of his personal best (pb).
There were also pennants for Charlie Green, George Parsons and Arron Almond for finishing in the top six within their age group, all with new best times.
In the girls' events, Thomas' sister Lucy, 10, secured a silver medal, whilst Patty Holloway and Emma Fitzpatrick won pennants.
As expected, relay races were close, with strong teams from Worcester, Stourbridge and Hales-owen dominating the medals.
The 9/10 Ledbury girls - Alice Quigley (backstroke), Lucy Stokes (breaststroke), Patty Holloway (butterfly) and Caitlin Clark (freestyle) - caused a stir in qualifying for the medley relay final in top position.
Alice's opening two lengths kept them in touch with the leaders with Lucy turning that into a slight lead, built still further by a determined Patty as the team went even faster than in the qualifiers. With a cheering Ledbury squad looking on, Caitlin pushed on to victory by two metres and a new county record.
The same girls' went on to set another county record in the freestyle relay, knocking four seconds off their heat time when seeded third.
n Other results: 9/10 boys' (Daniel Adair, Charlie Green, Jonathan Lea, William Brown): Bronze, freestyle relay, 6th place pennants, medley; 11yrs (George, Sam, Alice and Rose Parsons): New pbs, individual medley; 11/12 boys' relay (George Parsons, Thomas Stokes, George Bennion, James Middleton): Silver, medley and freestyle; 13/14 girls' (Annie Wilce, Charlie Scott Wilson, Hannah Bloxsome, Susan Pudge): Fourth, medley, sixth, freestyle.
The 11/12 girls' squad (Emily Docherty, Josie Rycroft, Katie Batley, Hannah Kirby, Emma Fitzpatrick and Eloise van Vuren) were in a very tough age group and were just a touch from qualifying for their finals.
