Lads Club v Strollers.
STROLLERS' 100 per cent start to the season continued with victory in this top-of-the-table clash.
Marches League division five opponents Lads Club were put in for the first time this season, having lost the toss.
They struggled on a bowler-friendly wicket to 39-3 off 18 overs and then, after an attempt to up the rate by opener Brian Caffelle, to 67-5 with 21 left, Mark Powell taking two wickets in an over.
Caffelle held the innings together, posting a gritty 70 not out (10 fours) out of a defendable 149-8 off 45 overs. Simon Albright was the pick of the Strollers' attack with an economical 13-3 from his 11.
The Strollers' reply stuttered to 37-3 after 22 overs, with opening bowler Oliver racking up eight maidens in his 12 overs, taking 1-21.
Once brothers James and Mark Powell had seen off the opening bowlers, they started to up the rate. Risks had to be taken and Mark Powell led the charge, notching up his third 50 of the season, having got away with some streaky shots early on.
A total of 99 runs came in 13.3 overs after the departure of the opening bowlers and the total was chased down with seven overs to spare. James Powell finished on 31 not out (3 fours, 1 six) whilst Mark Powell top scored with 76 not out (9 fours, 4 sixes).
