THIRTEEN English country gardens in Kingsland opened their gates to visitors recently in aid of St Michael's Hospice and Kingsland church, raising more than £2,800.
"We were so lucky with the weather," said Mrs Bridget Eastaugh, whose garden at Willow Cottage was one of those open to the public. "Lots of people came and the two days were a great success."
Music was also a feature of the weekend, with a very popular concert given by the Hereford Rail Male choir, who sang a selection of old favourites and new songs.
Refreshments on sale in the church and a plant stall, generously stocked by village residents and local garden centres, helped boost the impressive total.
It wasn't only the visitors who had a great time. "One garden owner who had never opened to the public before told me he couldn't believe how much he'd enjoyed it," added Mrs Eastaugh.
