A HEREFORD Sixth Form College student has won a trip to the West Indies to take part in an educational summer camp.
Beth Healey, aged 18, is planning to study medicine next year having just finished her A-level exams in biology, chemistry and art.
"I would really like to pursue a career in medicine," said Beth.
"I'm interested in science and want to work with people. There are so many career options."
While at a conference on medical careers in Nottingham, Beth entered a competition run by St George's University, which is based on the Caribbean island of Grenada. The prize was a free trip to Camp Medicine, a 10-day summer camp featuring sessions on study skills, clinical lab skills and medical instruction. Students will also visit the wards and units of local hospitals and clinics.
But it's not all work. Beth will also have the opportunity to tour the island, visit the rain forest, waterfalls and coral reefs and go sailing and whale watching.
Beth is off to Camp Medicine from July 14 to 24.
"I am very excited about going to Grenada and attending the summer camp. I hope to learn much more about what being a doctor involves," she said.
