The annual open day and fete at Sheppard House in Newent will kick-off tomorrow (Saturday) with a grand procession.

The route goes through the town centre, starting at 10.45pm on the Lakeside car park, and lasts around 30 minutes.

Newent's Chelsea Flower Show multiple gold medalist Julian Dowle will have pride of place on a horse and cart driven by local farmer, Eric Freeman. The Forest Emeralds marching band will also head the procession.

All this week, senior citizens at Sheppard House have been busy breaking out the flags and bunting in preparation for tomorrow's crowd-pleaser.

Attractions will include a medieval archery display, involving the use of real longbows, and vintage cars and motorcycles.

The fete will be declared open by Mr Dowle at 11am and run till 3.30pm. Other attractions will include stalls, a coconut shy and a raffle.
