Guidelines for dealing with plans for mobile phone masts are being prepared by Colwall Parish Council.

The move will pre-empt T-Mobile's proposals for a mast near Chances Pitch.

The council declined to comment on a pre-consultation letter sent by T-Mobile in June.

"We said we'd comment when the planning application comes through," said clerk Charlie Walker. "We knew this one was coming and think we may get more, so wanted some guidelines to go on."

Draft suggestions, discussed at a meeting on Wednesday, include siting masts at least 300 metres from housing, on top of existing structures and never against the skyline.

A finished document will be prepared for July's meeting.

Vandalism of a newly planted tree outside the Colwall factory of Coca-Cola Enterprises was also discussed.

Coun Phil Browning said he was disgusted.

"It has just been planted and now it's torn to shreds," he said.

Vandals have also sprayed graffiti on the recently- redecorated nature reserve notice board at the station.

"We hope we can remove the damage, but it's such a shame," said Coun James Ferguson.

Councillors also discussed arrangements for a trip to the Snowdome, Tamworth, for village youngsters in August.

Details have not yet been finalised but £400 was set aside to help fund the activity.

Councillors opposed a revised planning application for an extension to Whistlers End, Walwyn Road. They felt an earlier application, refused by Herefordshire Council planning officers, was preferable.

"We didn't object to the first application but this one is extremely unsightly," said Coun Browning.

The council raised no objections to BT plans to convert three telephone boxes in Evendine Lane and Jubilee Drive from cash to credit card.

Emergency and reverse charge calls can still be made.
