The founder of the Ledbury Visually Impaired Persons' Club is retiring at the age of 80, raising fears that it might fold, without new help.

Dorothy Ginn, of Horse Lane Orchard, founded the Ledbury VIP club in 1991, though she herself is not visually impaired.

She said: "I'd been secretary of the Ledbury Stroke Club for three years, but wanted to prove that I could run my own club.

"I've enjoyed it, but everything comes to an end, although I shall probably be dropping in from time to time to give advice."

The club, which has around 20 members, is down to just three or four helpers and Mrs Ginn is particularly anxious that an assistant treasurer is found.

Much of the accounting work has been carried out by Mrs Ginn, with the help of Ledbury CVA.

"It's been a lot of pressure and responsibility," she said.

She said the future of the club was now a bit uncertain and added: "I sincerely hope it will not fold but we do need more helpers to come forward."

The VIP club is largely a social club for local visually impaired people.

Members gather every first and third Thursday in the month at St Michael's Flats, with the exception of August.

Mrs Ginn's last day as leader and secretary will be Thursday, July 21.

Members also enjoy trips out and there are links to the RNLI.
