FOLLOWING a week's forced inactivity due to Wellington's pitch problems, Canon Frome undertook the long trip to Llandrindod Wells and were invited to bat first.
LLANDRINDOD WELLS v CANON FROME
They got off to a bad start as Chris Styles smashed one straight into cover's hands in the third over and Andy Rogers edged to slip four overs later, to reduce the visitors to 11-2.
Richard Wood began to show traces of form as he made his way to 20 but he fell with the score on 43 in the 16th over. The Mence brothers, Rob and Rhod, took the score past the three figures mark before Rob was adjudged lbw for 26.
Rhod Mence was now beginning to show some of the form he had before his self-induced retirement for a couple of seasons and runs began to flow. He took 28 off one over from John Davies (the over also included a wide) and reached his half-century from 32 balls, eventually being dismissed for 73 from 59 balls, which contained eight 4s and four 6s, as Frome reached 149-5.
Marcus Wrinch and Chris Frost edged the total on to 169 before they both fell lbw as Frome looked to reach the 200 mark for maximum batting points.
Seth Marshal and Harry Orgee added excellent late impetus to the innings, with Marshall hitting 28 from 19 balls, taking 20 from one Jones' over including three consecutive 6s, before he fell with the total on 205. Orgee notched 16no from 17 balls and Darren Meredith 3no, as Frome's innings ended on 223-8.
The home side's reply floundered immediately in the face of excellent pace bowling from Andy Rogers and accurate swing from Chris Styles.
Rogers struck in the first over, Styles in the fourth over and by the time 14 overs had passed they had both shared another wicket each as the score reached 14-4.
Three wickets fell with the score on 25, another one run later and, following the best partnership of the innings (15), the last two wickets fell to leave Llandrindod 43 all out, 180 runs adrift of Frome's total. Rogers and Styles each grabbed five wickets.
