EAST RADNOR PARISH - Members from the churches in the parish were amid a large congregation at Brecon Cathedral last Sunday to witness the ordination of the Rev John Stocker. Father John, who was formerly the headteacher of John Beddoes School, Presteigne, was made a deacon last June and serves as assistant curate (non-stipendiary ministry) in the parish. Also ordained was the Rev Kenneth Padley, who worked in the parish as part of his training. At 10.30am on Sunday Father John will celebrate his first Eucharist at Saint Edward's church.
This will be a combined service for the whole of the parish and Canon Andrew Loat, Rector of Llandrindod Wells, will be guest speaker. This will be followed by a bring-and-share lunch in the church hall. At 3pm the Loyal Offa's Dyke Lodge of the Oddfellows will hold its Service of Thanksgiving at Saint Edward's.
BAPTIST CHURCH -there will be a family service, at Knighton Baptist Church on Sunday, at 11am, followed by refreshments and the Traidcraft Stall in the schoolroom. There will be services at 2.30pm in Coxall Baptist Church and at 6.30pm in Knucklas Baptist Church.
METHODIST CHURCH - services at Knighton Methodist Church will begin again on Sunday, with morning worship at 11am. The church has been closed for refurbishment.
CATHOLIC CHURCH - Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Sunday, in Knighton Catholic church, Market Street.
MACMILLAN CANCER RELIEF - there will be a garden party at Gingers' Millinery, Trevland, Felindre, Knighton,
on Saturday, July 9, at 2pm. Admission in £3.50 and a buffet meal is included. First prize in the raffle will be one of Ginger's hats made to the winner's individual requirements.
ODDFELLOWS - the Loyal Offa's Dyke Lodge of the Oddfellows is holding a service of thanksgiving at Saint Edward's church on Sunday, at 3pm, featuring musical items by the Offa's Dyke Male Voice Choir.
The lodge is also organising an concert with the Unity Brass Band, in Knighton Community Centre, Bowling Green Lane, at 3pm. Tickets from members at £5.
COMMUNITY MARKET - Knighton farmers and community market is due to be held on Saturday, July 23, 10am-1pm in the community centre.
