ALL-ROUNDER Ian Herbert produced a fine display with bat and ball as Wormelow extended their winning run with a 43-run success at Burghill & Tillington.
After a barren 2004 in which he failed to pass 50, Herbert has rediscovered his form in recent weeks, following up an unbeaten 80 against Llandrindod Wells with a hard-hitting 108 last Saturday as Wormelow amassed 271-6.
Herbert (3-45) and Clive Price (3-72) then joined forces to help to restrict the home side to 228-6.
After being put in to bat, Wormelow openers Shaun Waldron (55) and Jamie Langford (26) compiled 73 for the first wicket.
The real fireworks, however, came in the closing stages of the innings as Herbert walloped five sixes and 14 fours in a 77-ball century, with his last 58 coming from just 28 deliveries.
The home side failed to help their cause much by grassing seven catches, one of which brought an injury to Kingsley Morris which necessitated a hospital visit and removed the influential all-rounder from the remainder of the game.
Burghill could certainly have used Morris' skill with the bat but New Zealander Nick Phelps, with 10 fours and three sixes in a sparkling 99, and Zimbabwean Clive Chadhani (59) did their best to make up for his absence.
Another in-form batsman, Garnons skipper Jon Andrews, cracked his second century in successive weeks as he led his side to a narrow two-wicket success at Goodrich.
Chasing 199 to win, Garnons had appeared to be in trouble at 159-8 with just seven overs remaining, after some good bowling by Phil Evans (4-40), Mike Evans (3-55) and Robbie Heath (2-19).
But Andrews, who hit 18 fours and three sixes in his fine innings, was joined by Richard Mayson (13 not out) and the pair carried the visitors home with two overs to spare.
Earlier, Goodrich had struggled against the Garnons seam attack of Alan Jones (3-59), Andy Brace (2-29) and Andrews (2-48) as they reached 198.
Home skipper Andy Brown (42), Alex Russell (37) and Phil Evans (34) all batted well for the home side.
Talgarth are keeping up the pressure at the top of the table after a 56-run win at Glangrwyney.
The visitors were grateful for Ewan Cardell's 71 not out as they compiled 200-4 from their 45 overs. Cardwell received good support from Glyn Harrhy (34), Haydn Whiting (28) and Des Parry (24) while Ben Bowker (2-60) was the home side's most effective bowler.
Bowker was also in good form with the bat, but his unbeaten 60 was the only score over 13 as the home side struggled to 144-9.
Glangrwyney are still without a win this season, a plight matched by Llandrindod Wells who were hammered by 160 runs at Canon Frome after being shot out for just 43 by home seamers Andy Rogers (5-22) and Chris Styles (5-20).
The day had begun rather less promisingly for the pair with Styles dismissed for a duck and Rogers for just three as the visitors were reduced to 11-2.
Richard Wood (20) and Rob Mence (26) began a recovery, however, and this was carried on by Rhod Mence who reached a half-century from just 32 balls and hammered 28 in an over from John Davies as he reached 78.
Seth Marshall (28) and Harry Orgee (16 not out) pushed the score on to 223-8 with a late flurry of runs which placed Frome firmly in control.
The home side had no reply to the pace of Rogers and the swing of Styles with only Martin Hurst (13 not out) getting into double figures as Llandrindod were shot out in 22.5 overs.
