Kington moved back to the top of the Crusader Worcestershire County League Division 1 after piling up the runs in a winning draw against Herefordshire rivals Eastnor.

Kington made light of damp conditions to score 308-3 before declaring.

But a true pitch made it difficult for the home bowlers to break through and Eastnor struggled their way through to 174-8 from 57 overs to claim the draw.

After being put in to bat, Kington lost a quick wicket when Edward Symonds was bowled by Tom Hurrell (2-84) for 10.

But this was the only Eastnor success for a considerable time as Tom Brierley (93) and Dave Exall (126) came together to punish the visitors' bowling.

And there was little respite after they were finally parted with Alan Butterworth coming to the crease to hammer 46 not out before Kington finally called a halt after 43 overs.

In reply, Eastnor made a disastrous start when Danny Baker was caught by Exall from Kevin Gwynne's third ball for a duck.

Shahid (43) and Steve Fortey (69) began the retrenchment operation and, although they were eventually parted, Steve Emery (16) and Adeel (27) continued to hold out while keeping the total ticking over.

But a flurry of late wickets enabled Kington to boost their points tally to 15 while Eastnor claimed three.

Kington now lead the table by five points from Ombersley who were only able to secure a losing draw at Stourbridge.

In the day's other Herefordshire derby, Brockhampton recovered from a rocky 31-4 after being put into bat to beat hosts Luctonians by 52 runs.

With Ollie Williams (6-68) and Australian Vinnie Kay (2-29) making early inroads, it took a captain's innings from Andrew Watkins to set the villagers back on track.

Watkins compiled a patient unbeaten 65 and received good support from two of the club's younger players as the total began to mount.

Tom Austwick, on his first-team debut, cracked three fours in a useful 28 while Andrew Aston made 15 as the Brockhampton innings closed on 170-9.

In reply, Luctonians were always struggling against some high quality pace bowling from Brockhampton's opening attack of Mohammad Ali and Richard Parker.

Parker led the way with 6-39 and Ali finished with 4-75 as the pair bowled unchanged through the home side's innings.

Only opener Mark Loudon (27), Parker's Herefordshire Minor Counties colleague Ed Rollings (25) and Kay (14) were able to get into double figures.

The victory moved Brockhampton up to seventh place but Luctonians are now 37 points adrift at the foot of the table with almost half of the programme completed.

Bromyard lost further ground at the top of Division 2 when their scheduled match with Belbroughton was a victim of the damp conditions while top club Barnards Green gained 15 points from a winning draw with Harborne.
