KEVIN Gibbons won the Leominster club championship by four shots from Garry Price over the weekend when the Ford Bridge course was in excellent condition and played to its potential.

Gibbons opened up with 72 on the first day and followed up with 76 for a gross 148, while Price was also consistent with 75 and 77 for 152 and Adam Price's 79 and 80 gave him 159 for third place after a countback.

Jeremy Lawrence went round in 73 on the first day but then had 86 for 159 and this cost him fourth place on countback to Adam Phillips' 159 from 79 and 80.

Brothers Jamie Morris, aged 15, and Jack Morris, 13, won the Ford Bridge Cup and Ravenhill Cup respectively.

n Mark Keddie lipped out on seven greens for birdies but still won best gross with a sparkling 73, just three short of the course record, at Hereford Municipal's Daily Tele-graph Junior Open.

James Marsh won the best nett with 78-12-66, while Kieron Helps, 77-9-68, was second and Shaun Chambers, 82-12-70, third.

Helps beat county champion and Junior Shropshire & Hereford-shire champion Kris Jones four up when Hereford played Burghill Valley at home in the Junior Handicap League. But he was the only home winner in a 5-1 defeat.

n There was some good scoring at Herefordshire GC's Captain's Day when Richard Negus had the best nett with 46 points and Ken Mallender the best gross with 39.

n South Herefordshire's 10th annual NSPCC Charity golf day on Saturday, July 9, has attracted 132 players and it is hoped to raise in excess of £1,000. Sponsored hole-in-one prizes include a new VW car, a holiday and a new set of clubs.

n Luctonians are staging an Am-Am tournament at Leominster GC on Friday, August 12 to raise funds for improvements to their clubhouse.

Tees are booked from 10am to 2pm for teams of four competing over 18 holes for various prizes. The entry fee is £220 per team and includes a three-course buffet meal.
